I warn you of seven trials that will come after me: a trial that will come from Medina, a trial from Mecca, a trial that will come from Yemen, a trial that will come from the Levant, a trial that will come from the East, a trial that will come from the West, and a trial that will come from the interior of the Levant, which is the trial of the Sufyani.

Al-Hakam bin Nafi’ told us, on the authority of Jarrah, on the authority of Artah, he said: “The Sufyani kills everyone who disobeys him, saws them, and cooks them in pots for six months. He said: And the two Easts and the two Wests will meet.”

Abu Amr Al-Basri told us, on the authority of Ibn Lahi’ah, on the authority of Abdul Wahhab bin Hussein, on the authority of Muhammad bin Thabit Al-Banani, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Al-Harith Al-Hamdani, on the authority of Ibn Masoud (may Allah be pleased with him), on the authority of the Prophet (may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him) who said: “The seventh of the Abbasids calls people to disbelief, but they do not respond to him. Then his family says to him: Do you want to expel us from our livelihood? So he says: I am following the path of Abu Bakr and Omar (may Allah be pleased with him) among you.” However, he refuses to do so, then an enemy of his from his family from Banu Hashim kills him, and if he attacks him, they disagree among themselves.” He mentioned a long disagreement until the emergence of Al-Sufyani.

If two men from Banu Abbas were deposed, and they were the two branches, the first disagreement occurred between them, then the second disagreement followed, which involved annihilation, and the emergence of the Sufyani upon their second disagreement.

If a village in Damascus is eclipsed, and a group to the west of its mosque falls, then the Turks and the Romans will gather together and fight, and three flags will be raised in the Levant, and then the Sufyani will fight them until they reach Qarqisiya. Those who ride the openwork ones will fall on the hills of the Peninsula and the Levant and take their women captive, to the point that a man will see the white of his wife’s anklets and will not be able to defend her.

If the Turks and Khazars appear in the peninsula and Azerbaijan, and the Romans in the depths and its outskirts, the Romans will fight a man from Qays, from the people of Qinnasrin, and the Sufyani will fight the people of the East in Iraq, and each side will be occupied with an enemy. If he fights them for forty days and does not come to him, he will extend the favor of the Romans, provided that neither party gives anything to the other.

The bearers of the black flags and the bearers of the yellow flags meet at the bridge and fight until they reach Palestine, then the Sufyani revolts against the people of the East. When the people of the West descend on Jordan, their leader dies. They separate into three groups: a group that returns to where it came from, a group that performs Hajj, and a group that remains constant. Then the Sufyani fights them and defeats them, and they enter into obedience to him.

The first people of the Maghreb entered the Damascus Mosque, and while they were looking at its marvels, the earth trembled, and it sank to the west of its mosque, and it eclipsed a village called Harasta.

Abdullah bin Marwan told us, on the authority of Saeed bin Yazid al-Tanukhi, on the authority of al-Zuhri, who said: “If the black flags differ among themselves, the yellow flags come to them, and they gather in the bridge of the people of Egypt, and the people of the East and the people of the West fight seven times, and then the attack will be on the people of the East until they descend on Ramla, and something will happen between the people of the Levant and the people of the West, and the people of the West will become angry and say: We have come to support you, and then you will do what they do? between you and the people of the East, and they will plunder you, due to the scarcity of the people of the Levant on that day in their eyes. Then the Sufyani will emerge, and the people of the Levant will follow him, and he will fight the people of the East.”
