Severing Family Ties, Bad Neighborliness, and False Testimony
In brief
The breakdown of family and community bonds before the Hour: severing ties of kinship (qati'at al-rahim), mistreating neighbors, giving false testimony, and concealing truthful witness.
In authentic narrations from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and Anas (Musnad Ahmad 3870, al-Mustadrak 7043), the Prophet ﷺ counted among the signs before the Hour: the severing of blood ties, bad neighborliness, the spread of false testimony (shahadat al-zur), and the hiding of true testimony.
Grouped among the social and moral minor signs that spread when trust (amanah) is lost.
Maintain family ties even with those who cut you off, honor your neighbor, and stand firm as a witness for justice (Qur'an 4:135).
