Al-Hakam bin Nafi’ told us, on the authority of Sa’id bin Sinan, on the authority of Hudayr bin Kurayb, on the authority of Katheer bin Murrah Abi Shajara, on the authority of Ibn Umar, (may Allah be pleased with him), on the authority of the Prophet (may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him) who said: “You will make the land difficult for you until the people of your presence envy your people of your Bedouin, just as your people of Bedouin today envy your people of your homeland, because of the difficulty of the land, and you will tilt the land with you in such a way that whoever perished will perish, and whoever remains will remain, until you free the slaves, then The earth will calm down for you after that for a while until the freedmen regret it, then after that it will tilt another tilt and whoever perished will perish and those who remain will remain. They will say: Our Lord, we will free, our Lord, we will free. But Allah will lie to them, saying: You have lied, you have lied. Rather, I will free, and let the last women of this nation be afflicted with trembling. If they repent, Allah will accept their repentance. If they return, Allah will restore them with trembling. And if it is said: The people perished, the people perished, three times, then they have perished, and Allah will not punish a nation until they excuse the one who excuses it, until they become aware of their sins and do not repent, and hearts will be reassured by what is within them of their righteousness and immorality just as trees are reassured by what is in them, until no doer of good will be able to increase in goodness, and no evildoer will be able to seek repentance, and that is because Allah Almighty says: {No, but what they used to earn will be seen upon their hearts} [Al-Muttafifin: 14]
