Abdullah bin Marwan told us, on the authority of Saeed bin Yazid al-Tanukhi, on the authority of al-Zuhri, who said: “The Mahdi dies, then the people fall into strife after him, and a man from Banu Makhzum comes to them and pledges allegiance to him. He stays for a while, then withholds provision and finds no one to change it for him. Then he withholds giving and finds no one to change it for him. He descends on Jerusalem, and he and his companions are like rearing calves, and their women walk in golden ducks, and clothes of gold.” They hide, and he finds no one to attack him, so he orders the expulsion of the people of Yemen: Qada`ah, Madhaj, Hamdan, Himyar, Azd, Ghassan, and all who are called from Yemen. So he expels them until they descend on the reefs of Palestine, so that Jadis, Lakhm, Judham, and the people return to them in droves from those mountains with food and drink, so that they may be relieved just as Joseph was relief to his brothers, when a herald called from the sky, not a human or a jinn: Pledge your allegiance. So-and-so, do not return on your heels after the migration, and they look but do not recognize the man. Then he calls three, then he pledges allegiance to Al-Mansur, so he sends ten delegations to Al-Makhzoumi, and he kills nine and leaves one, then he sends five, and he kills four and leaves one, then he sends three, and he kills two and leaves one, and he marches to him, and Allah grants him victory over him, so Allah kills him and those with him, and only the fugitive escapes, and he does not leave a Quraysh without killing him, and then he seeks a Quraysh, but there is no Just as a man today seeks someone from Jurhum and is not found, so you kill Quraysh and they are not found again.”
