قال كعب: وحدثني مولى لعبد الله بن عمرو، عن عبد الله بن عمرو، سمعه يقول: «إذا رأيت أو سمعت برجل من أبناء الجبابرة بمصر، له سلطان يغلب على سلطانه، ثم يفر إلى الروم، فذلك أول الملاحم، يأتي بالروم إلى أهل الإسلام» ، فقيل له: إن أهل مصر سيسبون فيما أخبرنا وهم إخواننا، أحق ذلك؟ قال: «نعم، إذا رأيت أهل مصر قد قتلوا إماما بين أظهرهم، فاخرج إن استطعت ولا تقرب القصر، فإنه بهم تحل السباء»
