قال الوليد: «والحمرة والنجوم التي رأيناها ليست بالآيات، إنما نجم الآيات نجم ينقلب في الآفاق في صفر أو في ربيعين، أو في رجب، وعند ذلك يسير خاقان بالأتراك تتبعه روم الظواهر بالرايات والصلب»
