...to hammered leather shields. His statement (ﷺ): 'dhulf al-anuf' (snub-nosed): it is transmitted with dotted dhal and undotted dal as two dialectal variants, the famous one being with the dotted dhal. Among those who recorded both variants are the authors of al-Mashariq and al-Matali', who stated that the majority transmission is with the dotted dhal, while some transmit it with the undotted dal; the correct form is with the dotted dhal. It is vocalized with a dammah on the dhal and a sukun on the lam, being the plural of 'adhlaf', like humr from ahmar. Its meaning is flat, short noses with thick tips and flattened bridges. His statement (ﷺ): (red-faced, small-eyed): all these attributes are manifest miracles of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). Indeed, the Turks were found with all these identical characteristics in our era; Muslims saw them repeatedly and fought them, and they possessed the very attributes foretold by him (ﷺ): small eyes, reddish complexions, short flat noses, broad faces resembling hammered shields, and wearing footwear made of hair. All these descriptions exist in them and are witnessed by scholars and laymen alike; praise be to Allah for clarifying the proofs of prophethood and the miracles of His Messenger (ﷺ). His statement (ﷺ): (You will fight a people of small eyes): thus it appears in all transmissions as 'sighara al-a'yun' with the elision of the nun, which is an authentic Arabic grammatical form, similar to their saying 'dariba Zayd'. Al-Qadi mentioned that some narrators transmitted it with an alif and nun as 'sigharan al-a'yun', saying: this is a grammatical error. His statement...
