The scholars have authored books exposing their secrets, tearing away their veils, and elucidating their falsehood in their claim of noble descent and their claim of adhering to Islam, demonstrating that they are entirely dissociated from the Prophet (ﷺ) both by lineage and by religion. This individual who claimed the title of 'al-Mahdi', 'Ubayd Allah ibn Maymun, emerged in the year two hundred and ninety-nine (299 AH) and died in the year three hundred and twenty-four (324 AH). Then the rule passed to his son al-Qa'im, then to his son al-Mansur, then to his son al-Mu'izz, who founded Cairo, then to al-'Aziz, then to al-Hakim, then to his son al-Zahir, then to his son al-Mustansir, whose reign lasted for a long duration. During his reign occurred the tribulation of al-Basasiri, and the Friday sermon was delivered in his name in Baghdad for an entire year. Ibn al-Sabbah, who introduced the assassin's dagger for the Isma'ilis, was also among their followers. The dominion of these rulers in the land of Egypt came to an end in the year five hundred and sixty-eight (568 AH), having ruled it for more than two hundred years, and the reports transmitted by the scholars concerning their heresy and atheism are widely renowned.
