Chapter 1: The Distant Signs That Have Already Appeared and Ended

Imam Ahmad and al-Tabarani reported from Abu Rafi' that the Prophet (ﷺ) said to 'Ali: "There will be a matter between you and 'A'ishah." He said, "Will I be the more wretched of the two, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "No, but when that happens, escort her safely back to her place of security."

Abu Nu'aym narrated from Tawus (with an authentic chain of transmission) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to his wives: "Which of you will be the one at whom the dogs of Haw'ab bark?" Thereupon, 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) laughed in astonishment, so he said: "Be careful that it is not you, O Humayra'." And al-Haw'ab (spelled with an unpointed ha' with a fat-hah, a sukun on the waw, followed by a hamzah and then a ba') is a watering place belonging to the tribe of Banu 'Amir, as is well known.

A summary of the Battle of the Camel, according to what al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar mentioned while adhering to the authenticity or sound nature of the reports, is that on the day following the murder of 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) went out accompanied by Sufyan al-Thaqafi and entered the mosque. There, a group of people had gathered around Talhah. Abu Jahm ibn Hudhayfah came out and said, "O 'Ali, do you not see?" But 'Ali did not speak. He entered his house, brought out some tharid (meat and bread broth), and ate. Then he said, "My cousin has been killed, and his dominion has been overcome." Then he went out, and the people came to him while he was in the market of Madinah and said to him, "Stretch out your hand." He said, "Not until the people consult with one another." Some of them said, "If the people return to their provinces with the news of 'Uthman's murder while no one has arisen to lead after him, dissension and the corruption of the Ummah will not be averted." Thus, the majority took his hand and gave him the pledge of allegiance. Then he went to the public treasury (Bayt al-Mal) and opened it, and when...
