Chapter 1: The Distant Signs That Have Already Appeared and Ended
Al-Ajluni stated that a man testified against him that he spoke foul words which I disdain from mentioning in this book; so we seek refuge in Allah from His plot, and Allah knows best.
And among them is the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). In the hadith: "Count six signs before the Hour: my death, and the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis..." It was conquered twice: once during the time of 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and once during the time of the Ayyubid Kurds, when it was conquered by Sultan Salah al-Din (may Allah have mercy on him). In Tarikh al-Hanbali, it is mentioned that the Franks gained dominion over Bayt al-Maqdis for a brief period after King Salah al-Din, and its subsequent liberation occurred at the hand of al-Malik al-Nasir; thus, it was conquered three times.
And among them is the demise of the dominion of the Arabs. On the authority of Talhah ibn Malik: "Among the portents of the approach of the Hour is the ruin of the Arabs," meaning the loss of their sovereignty. It was narrated by al-Tirmidhi.
And among them is the abundance of wealth. The two Shaykhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim) narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The Hour will not be established until wealth becomes abundant among you and overflows, to the point that the owner of wealth will be distressed about who will accept his charity, and he will offer it, but the one to whom it is offered will say: 'I have no need of it.'" That is, I have no want of it. The author of "al-Isha'ah" stated: This occurred during the era of 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), as conquests multiplied when they divided the spoils of the Persians and the Romans. It also occurred during the era of 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz, when a man would offer his wealth as charity and find no one to accept it; and it will likewise occur in the time of al-Mahdi and 'Isa (peace be upon him), and Allah knows best.
