Conclusion: Regarding the Mention of the Beast and the Clarification of the Time of Its Emergence
(Faith that is beneficial in both abodes is that which encompasses both of them) is based upon the stance that the two testimonies of faith (Shahadatayn) are an essential constituent (shatr) of Iman and not merely an external condition (shart); however, the more sound position is contrary to this, as is elucidated in its appropriate place.
One of the later non-Arab scholars wrote an extensive treatise regarding this verse employing the terminology of the logicians, in which he presented wondrous insights and lifted the veil from the intended meaning. However, owing to its being beyond the comprehension of the general public, especially beginners, we have not cited anything from it here. Furthermore, one of the super-commentators on al-Baydawi fell into confusion and disorder here, so beware of it, for he merged the three distinct answers into a single one. We have only drawn attention to this lest someone be misled by it and presume that the words of al-Baydawi are contradictory. And Allah knows best.

Conclusion
Nu'aym ibn Hammad recorded in 'al-Fitan', and al-Hakim in 'al-Mustadrak', on the authority of 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: 'The people will not linger long after Gog and Magog (Ya'juj and Ma'juj) before the sun rises from its place of setting in the west. The pens will have dried, the scrolls will have been rolled up, and repentance will no longer be accepted from anyone. Iblis will fall down prostrating and crying out: 'O my Lord! Command me to prostrate to whomever You will!' The devils will gather around him and say: 'O our master! What is it that terrifies you?' He will reply: 'I only asked my Lord to grant me respite until the Day of Resurrection, but He granted me respite only until the Day of the Appointed Time. Now the sun has risen from the west, and this is that Day of the Appointed Time!' The devils will then become openly visible upon the earth, so much so that a man will say: 'This is my companion devil (qarin) who used to seduce me; all praise be to Allah Who has humiliated him!' Iblis will remain weeping in prostration until the Beast emerges and slays him while he is prostrating.'
I say: This indicates that the emergence of the Beast takes place after the rising of the sun from the west. The believers will enjoy life after that for forty years, wherein they will not wish for anything except that it will be granted to them, until forty years have elapsed following the appearance of the Beast. Then death will return among them and overtake them swiftly, such that not a single believer will remain. Only the disbelievers will remain, copulating indiscriminately in the thoroughfares like beasts, to the extent that a man will engage in intercourse with his own mother in the middle of the road, one dismounting from her and another immediately mounting her. The best and most righteous among them will merely say: 'If only you stepped aside from the middle of the road, it would be better.' They will continue in such a state until not a single child is born of lawful marriage. Then Allah will render the women barren for thirty years, and all of them will be children of fornication; these are the worst of creation, upon whom the Hour will be established.
