...their heedlessness, when a caller cries out: 'Lo! Indeed the door of repentance has been closed, and the sun and the moon have risen from their setting place!' The people will look and behold, they are both pitch-black like two large sacks, possessing neither radiance nor light. That is the statement of Allah the Exalted: {And the sun and the moon are joined together} [Al-Qiyamah: 9].

His statement: '(like two 'ikms)' is the dual form of 'ikm', which is a sack (ghirarah); meaning: like two enormous sacks. From this, the person who fastens the sacks onto a camel is called 'al-'akkam'. In the hadith of Umm Zar', it is said: 'her 'ukum are heavy (radah),' and Allah knows best.

Then both of them, namely the sun and the moon, will rise like two tethered camels, each competing with the other in a race. The people of the world will scream aloud, nursing mothers will be heedless of their children, every pregnant female will drop her burden, but as for the righteous and pious, their weeping on that day will benefit them and will be recorded for them as worship.

As for the corrupt and wicked, their weeping on that day will not benefit them and will be recorded against them as sorrow. When the sun and the moon reach the navel of the sky, which is its midpoint, Gabriel will come to them, seize them by their horns, and turn them back toward the west. Yet he will not set them in their ordinary setting places, but rather in the settings of their rising that day, which are the places of rising in the eastern direction,
