Hadith 677

Narrated to us from al-Qasim ibn Ja'far al-Hashimi, he said: 'Ali ibn Ishaq al-Madara'i narrated to us, Abu Isma'il al-Tirmidhi narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Sabiq narrated to us, he said: Maslamah ibn 'Ali narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, from the Prophet (ﷺ), who said: "Allah Almighty sent down five rivers from Paradise to the earth: Sayhan, which is the river of India; Jayhan, which is the river of Balkh; the Tigris (Dijlah) and Euphrates (al-Furat), which are the two rivers of Iraq; and the Nile (al-Nil), which is the river of Egypt. Allah Almighty sent them down from a single spring among the springs of Paradise, from the lowest level of its tiers, upon the two wings of Gabriel (peace be upon him). He entrusted them to the mountains, caused them to flow across the earth, and placed benefits in them for the people in various aspects of their livelihoods, and that is the saying of the Almighty and Majestic: {And We sent down water from the sky in measured amount and settled it in the earth} [al-Mu'minun: 18]. When it is time for the emergence of Gog and Magog, Allah Almighty will send Gabriel (peace be upon him), and he will raise up from the earth the Quran, all knowledge, the Black Stone from the corner of the House (Ka'bah), the Station of Ibrahim (Maqam Ibrahim), the Ark of Musa (peace be upon him) along with all that it contains, and these five rivers; all of that will be raised up to heaven. That is the saying of the Almighty and Majestic: {And indeed, We are able to take it away} [al-Mu'minun: 18]. When these things are raised from the earth, its inhabitants will lose the good of both religion and the world."
